Troy Kearns

Director of Business Development, NB Power

Troy has spent the last 25 years dedicated to leadership and management excellence across many industry verticals such as telecommunications, R&D, software, and energy and utilities where he’s held senior leadership roles delivery, operations, and business development.

Troy is currently the Director of Business Development with NB Power, responsible to lead, develop, and direct business initiatives focused on regional opportunities to expand NB Power’s core business in transmission, generation, and export markets. He is focused on developing NB Power’s business within Eastern Canada and the New England States through collaboration with neighbouring utilities, developers, and government agencies.

Prior to NB Power, Troy worked with utilities, industry, and research institutions across Canada and around the world navigate business transformation, grid modernization, and the energy transition. As Head of Siemens Power Technologies International (PTI) business segment, Troy was responsible for strategy, business development, operations, and delivery of the PTI Consulting business. Prior to Siemens, Troy held senior roles in innovation, new product and service development, and program and portfolio management at companies such as Bell Aliant, Innovatia, iMagicTV and Provinent Corporation.

A former graduate of the University of New Brunswick’s Technology Management and Entrepreneurship program himself, Troy has been teaching Managing Engineering and IT Projects at the university since 2004 where he’s been recognized with the Leadership in Education Award (2013) and the Teaching Excellence Award (2023). Troy likes to volunteer time in the industry and community and currently sits on the boards of the New Brunswick Energy Cluster as well as Inclusion New Brunswick, and has been a mentor with Energia Ventures – an accelerator for entrepreneurs in the energy, clean tech, and cybersecurity sectors.
